Meran

Summer breeze and Christmas market: Bolzano and surroundings

The spa town of Meran is much calmer. Stroll along the Passirio/Passer river, enjoy a pleasant aperitif in the old town, or take the Tappeiner promenade to Dorf Tirol for a wonderful view over Meran’s basin.

Glurns

The smallest town in South Tyrol is so romantic thanks to its medieval style. The picturesque old town is a little further away, but has a very special charm.

Time travel with the Kohlern cable car

It’s the oldest passenger cable car in the world! For over 100 years, the Kohlern cable car has been taking tourists, visitors, and workers from Bolzano up to Colle/Kohlern. At the top awaits a pretty mountain village that lives up to its nickname as the “green lung of the city”. Not far from the mountain station, two panoramic platforms offer a breathtaking view in all directions. You can even admire Ortles/Ortler, the highest peak of South Tyrol.

On Corno del Renon/Rittner Horn

In summer, you’ll find coolness and a magnificent view on Corno del Renon/Rittner Horn. With the Renon/Ritten cable car from Bolzano, you can easily reach Oberbozen. From there, you can continue with the historical Renon/Ritten narrow-gauge railway to the village of Klobenstein and then with bus line 166 towards Pemmern to the valley station of Corno del Renon/Rittner Horn lift.

On your bike: Pleasant tour around Monte di Mezzo/Mitterberg

Monte di Mezzo/Mitterberg is a forest-covered mountain ridge between Adige/Etsch river and Lago di Caldaro/Kalterer See. This leisurely bike tour leads around the mountain. The starting point is Leifers, from there you’ll ride along the cycle path along Adige/Etsch river towards Bolzano. Just before you reach the city, the path turns left towards Meran/Eppan. After a slight ascent, you’ll deserve a refreshing detour to the Laghi di Monticolo/Montiggler Seen. Continue past vineyards and orchards via Tramin and Neumarkt, then to Lago di Caldaro/Kalterer See, and back to Leifers. Sigmundskron castle with its Firmian Messner Mountain Museum is also on the route.

Laghi di Monticolo/Montiggler Seen

Need some refreshment? Dare to dive into the cool water of the beautifully situated Laghi di Monticolo/Montiggler Seen. By the way, the smaller lake is located in a natural reserve. It’s a bit quieter here.

Lago di Caldaro/Kalterer See

Exclusive Mediterranean cuisine, gentle water sports, and a wonderful vineyard landscape. At the warmest bathing lake in the Alps, dolce vita is always on the programme. Spend a relaxing day swimming among the reeds and glistening water or venture far out sailing and surfing, drink an aperitif and enjoy the fine cuisine, or explore the surrounding vineyards on a long walk … and simply let the beauty of the landscape work its magic on you.
